Evelyn Batres

Evelyn Batres is a first-generation graduate student and single mother to a 14-year-old daughter. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Passionate about addressing the inequities that exist in our education system, Evelyn is currently pursuing a master’s degree in educational counseling at the University of La Verne. Her commitment to working with students of color in education is demonstrated in the work she does with the EOPS/CARE program at Los Angeles Valley College. As a previous participant in non-profit programs, Evelyn is a product of the impact programs like Raise The Barr have on single-parent student trajectories. Her goal as a professional is to empower and support students of color in breaking down barriers and achieving their goals both in and out of academia.
